Hi, I’m Dr. LeeCole Legette, the Principal Nutrition Scientist for EQUELLE.®

Today, we’ll separate fact from fiction for menopause. We’re busting five major myths to help empower you in this transition.

Myth #1: Menopause happens in your fifties

Not always. It can happen earlier or later due to reproductive issues, and it may be induced by surgery. Whenever it occurs, we’re here to help.

Myth #2: Menopause happens overnight

It can last anywhere from one year to a decade because there are three steps: perimenopause, menopause, and postmenopause. Perimenopause starts in one’s early 40s and can last anywhere from 2–8 years. Menopause is the first day of a full year with no periods. And postmenopause are the remaining years after your final menstruation.

Myth #3: Hot flashes are the only symptom

Symptoms vary from women to women, but could include mood swings, night sweats, sleep disturbances, vaginal dryness, muscle aches, and joint pains.

Myth #4: You can’t get pregnant during menopause

Unless you’ve not had a period for 12 consecutive months, you can still very much get pregnant. For those experiencing irregular periods, pregnancy is a possibility.

Myth #5: Hormones are the only solution

Although many believe Hormone Replacement Therapy is the only option for relief, there are other natural remedies. Natural remedies for menopause include botanicals, acupuncture, mediation, as well as changing your diet and exercise routine.

Now we’ve busted the top five menopause myths. We would to hear from you! Tell us which topic to cover next.
